A married man goes to work as a married man and goes tot he store as a married man, and the fact that he's married affects how he interacts with others at work and the sore, but neither his work nor shipping are in intrinsic part of being married. In the same way, a member of a church follows Christ in all sorts of ways that are not tied to the work that God entrusts to the local church in any institutional fashion. But the individual's membership should affect how he does everything outside the gathered church.
